WATCHNET Release Notes

Dataton WATCHNET® version 1.4

Released May 10, 2017.

This version contains new features, enhancements to existing functionality, and bug fixes.

New Features

  • WATCHNET can now connect directly to a WATCHOUT production computer and control it in the same way as a display cluster using panel items or scripts. The following actions are available when controlling a production computer:
    • Set Input values
    • Set Layer Conditions
    • Full control of Main/Auxiliary timelines
    • Enter/Exit Standby mode
  • The panel text item can now display dynamic text corresponding to WATCHOUT properties:
    • Input Value
    • Main/Auxiliary Timeline position
When Auxiliary Timeline is displayed there is a further option of setting a placeholder text which will be displayed when the target auxiliary timeline is stopped.
  • A new Script action has been added that tells WATCHOUT to enter or exit Standby mode (with an optional fade rate): "Cluster Standby"
  • Panel buttons can now tell timelines to jump to control cues.
  • The name and cluster name of display computers can be programmed from the Subsystem page of WATCHNET

Enhancements

  • Overall stability and performance of the server has been enhanced, especially during startup and shutdown.
  • The bundled User's Guide is updated to 1.4.
  • The "Devices" module has been revamped and should now be easier to use and understand.
  • A selection of well-known protocols are now shipped with the WATCHNET installation and can be found under "Devices". Currently included protocols are:
    • JBMIA PJLink protocol
    • Barco F-Series command protocol
    • LG serial command protocol over LAN
    • Panasonic serial command protocol over LAN
  • If a script action fails it is now possible to choose whether a Script will stop-on-failure or continue executing.
  • The progress dialog of the file uploading module has been enhanced to more accurately show upload progress, especially when multiple files are uploaded.
  • Wake On Lan functionality has been improved and can now power on a cluster even if it's not on the same network subnet.
  • Communication Port and IP number prefix can now be specified for Protocols (previously known as Template Devices).
  • Panel items that directly target a WATCHOUT cluster or production computer will now be unusable when the target cluster or production computer is not online or ready to receive control commands. It is visually indicated when that is the case.
  • Cluster information supplied by WATCHOUT (e.g. through cues) is always visible in the log, regardless of log-level.

Bug fixes

  • A bug has been fixed which, under certain circumstances, made it impossible to manually add new members to an existing cluster.
  • Cluster information containing a large number of inputs or auxiliary timelines was not presented properly.
  • Large WOB files could not be uploaded to the server using Internet Explorer or Edge.
  • A bug regarding encryption which could cause the server to become unable to start has been addressed.
  • A slider could only have its values inverted (to invert slider direction) during creation, this is now possible during subsequent editing as well.
  • The "options" menu button for text items no longer vanishes when text is placed at the top of a panel page.
  • An issue has been addressed which could cause the "Script" page to become unusable when external devices in use by a script were removed from the system.
  • The list of available shows for a newly created cluster is now populated immediately, without having to open and close cluster information dialog.
