Sales & Business Development Director

Dataton, located in Sweden’s tech hub Mjärdevi – Linköping, has been developing and selling hardware- and software-based technology for over 50 years. Since the beginning, our mission has been to enhance experiences in public spaces. That’s right, over 50 years! Back when "software" was called computer programs and "hardware" was just electronics...

Chances are, you’ve come across our technology more than once – at art exhibitions, stadium concerts with famous rock bands, rink-side ads at hockey games, song contest shows, large-scale building projections… you name it!

Over the past ten years, we’ve been hard at work developing the next generation of our platform – WATCHOUT 7. We've invested hundreds of millions in R&D, and now we’re entering a critical phase: taking the product global. But to do that, we don’t just need a world-class product. We need to strengthen and modernize our sales and marketing team.

Could this be the role for you? Read on!

As Sales & Business Development Director, you will:

  • Develop and implement business strategies to strengthen our position in the cultural and creative sector.
  • Act as the link between our development team and the market, ensuring product development is market driven.
  • Lead and grow the sales and marketing teams toward shared goals.
  • Be part of the executive team and contribute to the company’s strategic direction in close collaboration with the CEO and board.
  • Represent Dataton globally as an ambassador for our vision, with regular travel to meet clients and partners around the world.

Just as we’ve had to rethink our technical development, we now need to rethink how we approach sales and marketing. We believe that, while B2B methods are of course important, we also need inspiration from B2C strategies. It's becoming increasingly vital to engage customers emotionally—not just with raw specs and performance.

If you're going to take on this role, you’ll need to understand this from day one. You'll also need the ability to build and lead a team focused on these challenges in a global context, while navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.

This role will involve quite a bit of travel—airport lounges, hotel check-ins, and frequent flyer points will become familiar. But it also means exciting encounters with creative professionals working with sound, image, show, film—you should genuinely care about these industries. Having a background in them is a big plus, so you can confidently drop buzzwords and not look puzzled when names like Crestron, Epson, Audinate, or Barco come up.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Can identify future business opportunities and truly understand customer needs.
  • Has experience in product sales.
  • Has worked in international sales and knows how to structure global sales and marketing operations effectively.
  • Is a natural leader who can inspire and coach a team—bringing out the best in every individual and building a culture of innovation.
  • Is both a visionary and a doer—you don’t just talk the talk; you make things happen.

Admit it – it sounds like a pretty exciting job, right?
