Immersive WATCHOUT show at Miami art museum
Swedish artist Jacob Felländer’s recent exhibit at MOCA, Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, is an exploration of different realities with multi-exposure photographs as the starting point. Moving from photo-based art, via immersive video, to virtual reality and tangible objects, "How to Unlock a Portal” invites visitors to imagine – and experience – a further dimension.
Six projectors are used to create the floor-to-ceiling computer-rendered video elements that wrap around the exhibit space, encircling the visitor. Dataton provided a WATCHOUT multi-display system and compact WATCHPAX media servers to deliver the seamless content for the show at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami.
“We approached Dataton after seeing how WATCHOUT was used for large-scale panorama projection at Fotografiska, the leading European photographic museum,” explains Felländer's manager Robert Whitlock, Artyard. “This exhibit is all about traveling through different dimensions, piquing the visitors interest to explore and experience art in a new way. With WATCHOUT we could present Jacob's digital art with the quality and impact that we wanted to achieve, giving a further layer to the photo-based art, virtual reality and the sculptures in the exhibition."
“How to Unlock a Portal” received rave reviews in local press and TV, with the Miami Herald headlining its article: “If you make one side trip from the big Art Basel fair, this is one to see."
