THE NATIONAL LIBRARY in Warsaw presented a temporary exhibition in the fall of 2010 to honour the 200th anniversary of the birth of Frederic Chopin. Chopin’s Visiting Card showcased the Library’s extensive collection of Chopin music manuscripts (the world’s largest) and memorabilia. Dataton PICKUP™ audio guides were an essential element in the exhibition, bringing the great composer and his music to life for visitors.
Chopin’s Visiting Card featured one of the composer’s actual calling cards and attracted much attention during its two-month run.
“The exhibition was highly rated by both casual visitors and specialists alike. Children, adults and seniors – everyone was able to use PICKUP easily,” commented Pjotr Majewski, MOOV, the audio tour programmer. “Chopin is all about music and one of the big attractions is that you can listen to a lot of Chopin’s music here via PICKUP – around seven hours played by famous pianists.”
The abstract installation took audiences through successive exhibition rooms reflecting Chopin’s creative process. The collection holds great historic and musical value; all of Chopin’s handwritten scores from the Polish National Library collection are part of the UNESCO world heritage register.
